Thinking about abuse

Most people find it difficult to talk about abuse even though it is not a rare experience. Often this is emotional and physical abuse and sometimes sexual. Talking and discussion, which is needed because often abuse is secret and hidden, does not fully communicate the emotions and memories that are associated by people who are abused. It is these feelings that  I am trying to show in  my series ‘The Happy Home.’ Home should be a safe place but sometimes it is a place of hurt as most abuse happens within families. I have used my own experiences and those of others to display these emotions. I find some of these images unsettling, even though I have fabricated, planned and executed them, but that is as it should be so that we don’t become anaesthetised to reading or hearing about abuse of any kind. Even better, we listen to people’s stories and try to support them.

NHS 2015: A Question of Numbers

I am a working GP. I have inhabited the roles of a GP, junior doctor, medical politician, nurse, patient and the bereaved. Here is my take on the current state of the NHS which is in the light of moves to alter the pay and working conditions of doctors and nurses. I am not neutral. This is my take of the situation, although I have tried to be fair to all parties involved who are  trying to change and improve the NHS in 2015.

I have used semiotics (signs and signifiers), which are largely based on numbers and statistics exchanged in fire between the current government and health care professionals and their union, to make my point.

Maybe you agree with my presentation. Maybe you disagree.
